First it takes alot of practice the same as any sport. the more you look at pictures the better you will be.
if you are looking at a picture it always helps me eliminate some whales f i know where the pic was taken. so look at pics of the tanks in each park, it really helps!
Start with Size and dorsal first, then the eye patch, every whale's is different. Last any other markings on the whale.
Killer Whales are probably the most easy to Id because of all their unique markings, unlike bottlenose dolphins. So good luck.

Black Sea bottlenose dolphins are easy to identify too. they have many markings what all black sea bottlenose dolphins have (unlike other bottlenose dolphin subspecies) but what are different on each dolphin. I have been to a dolphinarium with black sea bottlenose dolphins, they are all so different. but atlantic bottlenose dolphins are almost impossible to ID.
